This retreat explores ways to embody the four Brahma Viharas: friendliness, compassion, joy and equanimity. We'll explore how these qualities can support us to wisely respond to personal and collective challenges. There will be teachings on the obstacles that appear to obscure these qualities and reflections on the insights that they can bring into our lives.
The retreat will be offered using Zoom and there will be some opportunities to talk to each other at the beginning and end of the retreat. Although we will be meeting online, we will cultivate a sense of community and shared purpose during the retreat. Teacher Jake Dartington has many years of experience of teaching on Zoom.
Each day there will be three main periods of teaching at 9.30am (instructions), 2.30pm (guided meditation and movement) and 7.30pm (dharma talk). Between these times, you will be given a schedule to follow at home. You will also be given links to guided meditations to use at other times if the day. There will also be some small group meetings scheduled for the afternoons. The daily schedule will be made available to you.
We hope that this retreat will be a creative way to respond to the current situation and that it will support us all in this time.
You have a choice about how to participate in the retreat. You can follow a full retreat schedule of formal sitting and walking meditation from 7am until 9pm. Or if you have other commitments that make this impossible, you also have the option to simply join the three live teaching sessions at 9.30am, 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
In case you live in a different time zone recordings of the live sessions will be made available too, so that you can access them at suitable local times. However, we do recommend that you attend the orientation session live if at all possible.
- This course is offered on a fee basis to cover Bodhi College's overhead costs.
- The fee does not contribute towards the livelihood of our teachers. You will invited to offer teacher dana at the end of the course.
- If you are unable to afford the rate please let us know. We will make sure that no one is turned away because of lack of funds.
