Welcome to the noticeboard for Dhammapada, a five week online study programme taught by Christina Feldman, Stephen Batchelor, Yuka Nakamura, Martine Batchelor, and Antonia Sumbundu.<\/strong>

Christina refers to the translation of the Dhammapada by Gil Fronsdal.<\/p>\n

The word ‘mind’ in this text refers to the Pali ‘mana’. In the first verse, manomay\u0101 literally means ‘mind made’.<\/p>\n

\nJust as a fletcher fashions an arrow,<\/em>
\nJust as a carpenter shapes a piece of wood,<\/em>
\nSo the sage tames the self.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Chapter 4, Flowers, verse 49:<\/p>\n

The sage moves through the village<\/em>
\nJust as a bee gathers pollen<\/em>
\nAnd flies off without harming<\/em>
\nThe flower, its colour, or its fragrance.<\/em><\/p>\n
